Selain pernah menjadi hero perang Arab - Israel, dikaitkan dengan rampasan/pengeboman kapalterbang Pan Am, melindungi PLO dan membiarkan PLO mempunyai pengkalan tentera di Libya, dituduh Amerika sebagai salah-satu negara paksi keganasan kerana dikaitkan sebagai membantu pejuang-pejuang pebebasan Islam di seluruh pelusuk dunia, anak perempuannya berusia 2 tahun syahid ketika tentera Amerika melancarkan peluru berpandu ke atas rumahnya, bahkan beliau berkuasa setalah merampas kuasa daripada Sultan Idris yang ketika itu menjadi boneka Amerika Syarikat....
